2019 AFL Community Ambassador of the Month- July
Each month up until September, the AFL Community Ambassador Program will recognise and highlight the achievements of one of the many Ambassadors throughout the country.
For the month of July, the winner is Nuria Ushoroff from (Western Australia).
Nuria is a school teacher from the Australian Islamic College Kewdale and has been a great supporter of AFL. Nuria supports and runs all WAFC school based carnivals and programs, with the majority of her students new to the country and being exposed to AFL for the first time. Nuria is a hard working club volunteer and player with the East Perth Womens team, where she acted as vice president. In 2018, Nuria began coaching at the Vic Park Raiders in the female teams. Nuria has now successfully transitioned 10 multicultural girls from her school into club football for the first time. With her drive, care and dedication the main reason these girls have signed up to play community footy. Nuria has coached with the Medleys through the AFL Diversity Program, the Demons District Kirby Bentley Cup for the last 2 seasons, has helped drive the Bachar Houli Academy and the AIC Kewdale Auskick Program for over 100 students - all new arrivals to Australia.
Nuria is a Muslim woman and she has helped up-skill her local club on how to encourage and be a welcoming and inclusive space. Her impact at Vic Park has allowed her to transition players from school to club community football.
Nuria has championed equality by helping the club understand how to be welcoming and accepting of all cultures and people. Her passion for female and multicultural football has helped develop Victoria Park into an inclusive club - welcoming to all people. Her ability to teach her kids the uniqueness of Australia culture and the importance of football has been exceptional.
Nuria now goes into the running to be the National Community Ambassador of the year which includes:
- 2 x tickets and an AFL Grand Final Experience at the Toyota AFL Grand Final.
- 2 x return flights (except Victoria) and accommodation for 3 nights (Thurs - Sat) in Melbourne for Grand Final Weekend.
- The opportunity to walk in the Toyota AFL Grand Final
