AFL Community Ambassador - Emerging Leaders Course

Eight AFL Community Ambassadors from across the country have been selected to be part of the AFL’s inaugural Emerging Leaders Course.

The AFL Community Ambassador Emerging Leaders Course has been developed to provide an opportunity for young community leaders, from new and emerging communities, to build their skills and capacity to be the next generation of leaders in the AFL Industry.

Across Australia, there are over 320 AFL Community Ambassadors who work within the local community to promote the game to people from multicultural backgrounds.
Nominated by their respective State/Territory Diversity Managers, the nine selected AFL Community Ambassadors will undertake a series of sessions throughout the Course which will fast track their development in a range of different areas including leadership, employment and coaching.

Essendon Football Club star David Zaharakis will also be on hand to offer his leadership knowledge and experiences across each of the sessions delivered as the official Emerging Leaders Course Ambassador.

“I’m extremely proud to be named as the Ambassador of the AFL’s first Emerging Leaders Course,” Zaharakis said.

“Coming from a Greek heritage, I know the importance of supporting people from diverse communities and I think a program such as this will go a long way to ensuring that more people from multicultural backgrounds have an opportunity to reach their full potential.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting this year’s participants and supporting them on their journey to one day being part of the AFL industry in the future.”

The AFL Community Ambassador Emerging Leaders Course will commence on May 1 and run for five sessions before concluding in September.
